Workshop F: Squaring Circles of Citizenship – On developing a non-directive national curriculum-framework

In 2018 – 2019, representative teams of teachers and school-principals developed proposals for new national curriculum-frameworks for the whole of mandatory education in the Netherlands (4 – 18 years). The teams had to make clear what citizenship education could consist of in a radically diverse society. Marianne Vonder and Alderik Visser will talk about the process of developing the proposal for an open curriculum-framework for citizenship education in a dialogue with numerous different stakeholders. In particular they will address questions on non-directive moral and ethical education and/in the context of cultural and religious pluriformity, and the choices made to square the circles involved.
